Applications without standard GCSEs

Colchester Institute is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We recognise that everyone has different starting points and that there are many reasons why people don’t take GCSE exams.

You could have been home educated, have had breaks in schooling due to health reasons, you might recently have come to the UK, or you might be taking other qualifications – and that’s okay. All of our courses have specific entry requirements published in this prospectus, but in some subject areas we can be flexible and consider other ways to review your skills, knowledge and experience to assess your eligibility for our programmes. In some cases we can consider other qualifications that are deemed to be equivalent to GCSEs, such as Functional Skills and qualifications achieved outside the UK. We may vary our usual admissions process by asking applicants to take a maths and/or English assessment to identify the level you are working at. Alternatively, we may ask you to complete a subject related assessment to give you the opportunity to demonstrate existing skills.

If you are in this situation and would like to explore course options at Colchester Institute, please get in touch with our admissions team who look forward to discussing options with you and supporting you in your next steps. Otherwise, if you have decided on the course that you would like to apply for, please submit your application and our admissions team will be in touch.
