English and Maths

If you are aged between 16 and 18 years old you will study English Language and maths as part of your main full-time study programme.

As key skills for life, you will continue to develop your English and maths with us. If, when you enrol, you haven’t yet achieved a grade 4 or above in one or both of these subjects, you will attend timetabled GCSE classes each week as part of your study program. Attendance at these classes is critical as you will be working towards GCSE resits, increasing your grades and improving your opportunity for progression into higher education or employment.

If you have already achieved grade 4 or above, you will have English and/or maths built around your main course qualification to allow you to continue to stretch and develop these skills. For more information about study programmes please see our qualification and course levels page.

Our Adult Skills Centres (previously known as Learning Shops) offer Functional Skills courses in English and Maths for adult (19+) learners. The programmes offer a range of learning opportunities; English and Mathematics courses ranging from Entry Level to Level 2 qualifications. All our courses lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

Courses are tailored so you can learn at your own pace, build confidence, aid career development or to help you get back into work. A flexible programme is available to learners aged 18 or over and courses are broken down into bite-sized chunks, so you can learn at your own pace.
