C1 Advanced – Cambridge English: Advanced CAE

Cambridge English: Advanced is a qualification at C1 (advanced) level that is officially recognised all around the world by thousands of employers, as well as colleges and universities, as proof that you can use everyday written and spoken English for work or study purposes. It is typically taken by high achievers who want to follow a course at university level; communicate effectively at managerial and professional level; participate confidently in workplace meetings or academic tutorials and seminars or carry out complex and challenging research.

Course Content

Students will develop all four skill areas and improve their English by focusing on grammatical, lexical and functional concepts. They will follow a Cambridge course book which includes official preparation material for the exam. Mock exams will be taken in February, followed by individual tutorials where students will have the opportunity of discussing their progress with their tutor.

How will I learn?

Students will receive guidance on all parts of the exam (reading, writing, speaking, listening and the use of English). Working in pairs and small groups to complete language practice activities will ensure students improve their fluency and accuracy. Students will listen to audio, read and write a variety of texts, and do grammar and vocabulary activities.  Students will have regular progress tests throughout their studies and will receive individual meetings with their tutor to discuss their learning and development. Students will receive homework every week.

Who recognises the exam?
  • Cambridge English: Advanced is a truly international exam, recognised by thousands of employers as a qualification in intermediate English, suitable for industrial, administrative and service-based roles.
  • It is also accepted by a wide range of educational institutions for study purposes.
  • The exam has been accredited by Ofqual, the statutory regulatory authority for external qualifications in England and its counterparts in Wales and Northern Ireland.
What exams can I take?

The course will prepare you for the Cambridge exams. Students may decide to take C1 Advanced, or B2 First which has a similar exam format at the level below.
