(Functional Skills and Employability) Access to Apprenticeships

Applications for starting this course in the Autumn of 2024 are now closed.

For those looking to start this course in September 2025, applications will be open from July 7th 2025.

If you are a current year 11 student, we encourage you to make a full-time or joint full-time and apprenticeship application so that you have a backup for September. Upon receiving your grades in August, we would then identify the most appropriate learning route for you, which may be the Access to Apprenticeships programme.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to one of our Apprentice Recruitment team call: 01206 712043 or email: ci.apprenticeships@colchester.ac.uk

The Access to Apprenticeships programme is for those wanting to access an apprenticeship and will run 2 days a week, focusing on important work based skills, apprenticeship and work applications as well as Maths and English (through the completion of Functional Skills).

Maths and English can often be seen as a barrier to success on an apprenticeship, and this programme will see students working in a supportive environment to achieve Functional Skills to a level 2 standard (GCSE 4 equivalent).

All students will liaise with our Apprenticeship and Business Support teams in the latter part of the programme to receive individualised guidance to support them through the process of gaining an apprenticeship later in the academic year or for the start of the next academic year.

Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at any prospective student who wishes to progress onto an apprenticeship, but does not meet the relevant entry criteria for a course, or needs to develop the necessary work based learning skills.
