Numeracy Skills in the Workplace

Recent Government statistics suggest that almost half of the working-age population of England – up to 17 million adults – only have maths skills equivalent to those of primary schoolchildren.

Adults who feel that they need support with their numeracy skills can take advantage of free Multiply courses which are delivered in partnership with Essex County Council. Candidates must be adults aged 19 or over and not already have GCSE Grade C or 4 in maths (or an equivalent qualification).

Multiply seeks to address the crucial skills gap in Essex, where adult numeracy ranks lower when compared to the national average. It supports ECC’s broader ambition of helping Essex residents to increase their skills and to reduce barriers for disadvantaged groups.

Multiply courses can be delivered to your staff as part of their staff development, either within the workplace or remotely.

We are currently working with a number of employers to provide free Multiply courses through flexible training to their staff, including general workplace numeracy skills and more tailor-made programmes designed to improve skills in budgeting and finance.

As a large apprenticeship training provider, we already deliver functional skills courses to employers across multiple industry sectors. These are for both internal and external candidates that employers wish to train and up-skill through an apprenticeship and who don’t have the required skills in maths.

To find out more about numeracy and functional skills training options available for your workforce please contact us. Our Business Training Advisors will then work with you to create a training plan that caters to the needs of both you and your staff.
